This is a long nuno felted scarf made using soft black merino wool & hand dyed red silk chiffon. The cozy merino wool has been laid out in a fun zebra print pattern to make a very unique zebra scarf. since this scarf is rather long and wide it can be used as a wrap, or you can fasten it with a belt (see pictures above). Turn heads with the luxury animal print scarf that is sure to brighten up any dreary winter day!
This scarf measures 77 inches long by approximately 13.5 inches wide.
This one of a kind scarf was created using a very time intensive process called Nuno Felting. This technique is relatively new, and was developed by an Australian fiber artist named Polly Stirling in 1992. Nuno is actually the Japanese word for cloth, and the technique binds loose fibers (usually wool), into sheer fibers (like silk in this case) to create an extremely comfortably and light welt felt.
In the case of this gorgeous scarf, each piece of fabric was hand dyed by myself before binding them together into the finished product you see above!
One of the many benefits of a wool piece is that wool naturally repels dirt, allowing it to remain clean with very limited interventions by its owner. If you should need to clean your piece I recommend hand washing with cool water and a mild detergent. Rinse well and dry by rolling first in a towel (to absorb excess water), and then let the piece lay flat to air dry. If you really need the piece quickly, you can iron the scarf on the silk setting of an iron.
Wool is a fantastic fiber and is prized for its ability to regulate your temperature during all seasons. Silk is also an extremely breathable material and so all of my wool and silk scarves are specifically designed to keep you warm in the winter and autumn, cool in the spring and summer and stylish all year long.
Created in a smoke free, pet friendly environment.
